1J85 Soft Magnetic Alloy Overview
1J85 is a high-nickel iron-molybdenum soft magnetic alloy developed for high permeability and low magnetic loss after suitable forming and final magnetic annealing. It is used where weak magnetic signals must be concentrated, guided or shielded with minimal hysteresis.
Magnetic performance is not controlled by chemistry alone. Strip thickness, cold work, component geometry, surface condition, forming stress, furnace atmosphere, annealing cycle and post-annealing handling can materially affect permeability and coercivity. Required magnetic values and the test method must be stated before production.

| Magnetic Performance Factor |
Why It Matters |
| Final magnetic annealing |
Relieves forming stress and develops the required soft-magnetic structure; cycle and atmosphere must be controlled |
| Material thickness |
Influences eddy-current behavior, forming response and the test specimen used for acceptance |
| Component geometry |
Sharp bends, gaps, burrs and joints can reduce effective shielding or core performance |
| Post-annealing handling |
Mechanical shock, bending or machining after final annealing can introduce stress and change magnetic properties |
| Test conditions |
Field strength, frequency, specimen shape and measurement direction must match the agreed acceptance method |
