    1J50 Soft Magnetic Alloy Overview

1J50 is an iron-nickel soft magnetic precision alloy associated with relatively high permeability and relatively high saturation magnetic induction. Compared with higher-nickel grades such as 1J79 and 1J85, it is selected when the design requires a different balance of permeability, saturation behavior, component geometry and cost.

Final magnetic properties depend strongly on product dimensions, cold work, stamping or forming stress, component shape and the final magnetic annealing cycle. Chemistry alone does not guarantee finished-part performance; the required magnetic parameter and test method should be agreed before production.

1J50 Technical Data and Grade Comparison

The original composition data are retained below as a comparison between 1J50, 1J79 and 1J85. The highlighted row is the target grade for this page. Values are reference information; final acceptance follows the ordered specification and material certificate.

Grade C S P Mn Si Ni Mo Cu Fe
    1J50 ≤0.03 ≤0.02 ≤0.02 0.3–0.6 0.15–0.3 49–50.5 ≤0.2 Balance
    1J79 ≤0.03 ≤0.02 ≤0.02 0.6–1.1 0.3–0.5 78.5–80 3.8–4.1 ≤0.2 Balance
    1J85 ≤0.03 ≤0.02 ≤0.02 0.3–0.6 0.15–0.3 79–81 4.8–5.2 ≤0.2 Balance
Selection Factor Procurement and Design Note
Saturation requirement State the required induction and applied field instead of selecting only by grade name
Permeability and coercivity Specify initial / maximum permeability or coercivity together with the measurement method
Frequency and thickness Operating frequency and lamination thickness affect eddy-current loss and core response
Final annealing Annealing temperature, atmosphere, cooling and post-annealing handling affect finished magnetic performance
Component geometry Gaps, burrs, bends, joints and residual stress can change the effective magnetic circuit
