Nichrome 80 Alloy Overview

Nichrome 80 (Ni80Cr20) is a nickel-chromium electrical resistance alloy used for heating elements and resistance components. Its combination of high resistivity, oxidation resistance, hot strength and form stability supports service in household appliances, industrial furnaces and precision heating systems.

The maximum continuous element temperature in air can reach approximately 1200°C, but the allowable operating temperature depends on wire or strip dimensions, atmosphere, surface load, thermal cycling and element design. A protective chromium-oxide layer develops during suitable high-temperature service.

Supply Forms and Custom Processing

Product Form Production Review Information
Round wire Diameter, tolerance, coil or spool weight, surface condition and required resistance
Ribbon / flat wire Thickness, width, edge condition, camber and coil dimensions
Strip Thickness, width, condition, slit edge and coil inside diameter
Finished heating parts Drawing, electrical load, target resistance, cold dimensions and operating atmosphere for feasibility review

Resistance per unit length is not a fixed alloy value. For preliminary design, R = ρL/A. Final element design should also account for temperature factor, heat dissipation, cycling and connection design.
